Yesterday I bought a package of plain hot dogs at the store – nothing special, just enough to quickly put together a few sandwiches.
When I got home, I cut off a piece, ate a few, and put the rest in the fridge. Everything seemed perfectly normal.
The next morning I decided to have the same sausage for breakfast. But as soon as I started cutting, the knife encountered unexpected resistance, as if there was something hard inside. I suspected that perhaps it had frozen a little overnight. However, when I tried to cut another piece, the blade stopped again. Curious, I went over and froze. Something metallic gleamed inside the sausage.
At first I thought it was a piece of metal or plastic. But when I carefully took it out, I felt sick: it was a USB drive, a plain drive, full of sausage pieces. The thought made me sick. I had already eaten from that package! How could a USB drive end up inside a sealed sausage?
Disgust gave way to curiosity.
I plugged the USB drive into my computer, not knowing what to expect, and what I saw gave me goosebumps. There was only one folder, titled “OPEN.” Inside was a single photo: a man looking into the camera and laughing.
I dropped the mouse and sat there, staring at the screen, a shiver running down my spine. It might have been a bad joke, but who would go so far as to hide a thumb drive in their food?
I’m torn between calling the police to investigate or just putting it aside and trying to forget about it. Either way, one thing is for sure: I’ll never look at sausages in the store the same way again.
